TCY Recovery Timeline
TCY sits in a sensitive part of THORChain history: deprecated THORFi products, defaulted Savers and Lending claims, recovery-token mechanics, and later post-exploit recovery records. This timeline keeps those threads dated and separated.
Use it to understand what happened and which current checks matter now. Do not use it as proof that a claim can be executed, a route is live, a recovery outcome is complete, or TCY has a guaranteed value.
What This Timeline Can Prove
This page can support a few narrow claims:
- Savers and Lending are historical THORFi features, not current product instructions.
- The THORFi unwind converted defaulted THORFi debt into TCY recovery-token framing.
- Official TCY sources describe
1 TCYper$1of defaulted debt and a 10% system-income allocation to TCY stakers. - Official TCY sources also say full debt recovery is market dependent and not guaranteed.
- The accepted ADR-028 source specifies a one-time v3.19.0 conciliation migration for the May 2026 exploit-created accounting gap.
- May 2026 exploit conciliation is adjacent recovery context, but it is not the same event as the January-February 2025 THORFi unwind or proof that every loss was restored.
Everything current still needs live or freshly checked evidence.
Timeline
Before January 2025: THORFi Products
Savers and Lending were THORFi features with their own historical mechanics. The archived docs are useful for understanding what those products were, but they are not deposit, borrow, or yield instructions today.
For mechanics, start with the Savers and Lending historical deep dive.
January 2025: Risk Discussion And Pauses
The THORFi unwind announcement describes a January 2025 period where contributors and node operators discussed liability risk around Savers, Lending, synthetic exposure, and the effect of forced loan closures on RUNE supply and liquidity providers.
The same source describes THORFi lending and savings services as suspended in January 2025. Treat exact live availability as a current-source question, not as something this historical post can prove by itself.
January 24, 2025: Node-Voted Pause
The unwind postmortem says node operators paused Savers and Lending while the community discussed how to handle outstanding liabilities. It reports approximately $200M of outstanding liabilities at pause time, with an approximately $206M figure when additional synth exposure was included.
That is a dated liability snapshot. It does not prove the amount owed, claimed, repaid, or distributed at any later date.
January 30-31, 2025: Saver Yield Redirection
The unwind announcement says network parameters were proposed and then changed by node vote so yield generated from Savers collateral would be redirected back to liquidity providers instead of Savers during the discussion period.
This is useful context for why the wiki treats Savers as historical. It is not a current LP, yield, or solvency claim.
February 2-3, 2025: Proposal 6
After the pause, community proposals were put to node operators. The unwind announcement says Proposal 6 was approved by 67% of node operators on February 3, 2025.
The safe summary of Proposal 6 is:
- Defaulted THORFi debt would be converted into TCY.
- Borrowers and Savers could claim
1 TCYper$1of owed liability. - TCY would receive 10% of network revenue/system income.
- A RUNE/TCY pool would provide a market exit path.
- THORFi products would be eliminated or retired rather than treated as active products.
The important boundary: a market exit path is not the same thing as guaranteed par recovery.
March 19, 2025: THORFi Unwind Postmortem
The public THORFi unwind article recorded the postmortem and next steps. At that point, implementation was still in progress and the article did not by itself prove future claim availability.
For present-tense TCY claiming, staking, unstaking, distributions, or trading, use current official interfaces, THORNode endpoints, and live Mimir controls.
Current TCY Documentation: Mechanics And Caveats
The TCY developer guide, updated on July 12, 2026 at this review, and the tokenomics docs describe the technical framing:
- TCY is a native THORChain token associated with approximately
$210Mof defaulted THORFi debt. - Total supply is described as
210M TCY. - Claims are described at
1 TCYper$1of defaulted debt. - Claimed TCY is described as automatically staked.
- TCY stakers receive a 10% system-income allocation in RUNE when distribution conditions are met.
- TCY does not grant governance rights.
- Full debt recovery is market dependent and not guaranteed.
The developer guide also documents claim, staker, and bank-balance endpoints. Those docs establish the supported mechanics, but they still do not prove a specific claimant's status, a current RUNE distribution amount, that every interface is available, or any future value.
May-June 2026: Separate Exploit Conciliation
The May 2026 GG20/TSS exploit, the v3.19.x restart, and ADR-028 are separate incident-recovery records. They belong beside the TCY timeline because readers often search for "recovery", but they should not be merged into the THORFi/TCY debt timeline.
The immutable v3.19.0 ADR-028 source marks the decision Accepted and specifies a one-time Migrate15to16 conciliation waterfall. It reconciles protocol accounting with post-exploit on-chain holdings through reserve/POL, reserve-synth, Saver, and treasury layers. That proves an accepted allocation and migration design. It does not prove that every affected user recovered every loss, that no haircut occurred, or that current vault safety follows from the migration.
Use the Governance current recovery tracker for ADR-028 and post-exploit records, and the TSS deep dive for signing-mechanics context.
What TCY Represents
TCY is best described as recovery-token framing for defaulted THORFi claims. It is not the old Savers product, not the old Lending product, and not a governance token.
The useful mental model is:
- THORFi claims were dollarized for recovery accounting.
- TCY represents the recovery-token side of that unwind.
- Revenue sharing can create value, but the outcome depends on protocol revenue, RUNE price, market demand, distribution rules, and user-specific claim or staking state.
That is why the wiki should say "recovery-token framing" rather than "made whole".
What To Check Now
Before making a current TCY claim, check:
- The official TCY docs and claim interface for current claiming rules.
/network#network-diagnosticsfor live TCY Mimir controls such asTCYCLAIMINGHALT,TCYSTAKINGHALT,TCYSTAKEDISTRIBUTIONHALT,TCYUNSTAKINGHALT, andHALTTCYTRADING.- THORNode TCY endpoints for current claim or staking data when a specific address or aggregate claim requires protocol-state evidence.
- The TCY page for wiki-level caveats and source posture.
- The Governance recovery tracker for the accepted ADR-028 record and current GG20 incident posture; neither replaces live protocol evidence.
If those checks disagree, say which source was checked, when it was checked, and what it can prove.
Common Misreadings
"Savers are back." The archived docs and TCY framing do not make Savers a current product.
"Lending is available." Historical Lending mechanics do not prove current borrowing availability.
"1 TCY equals $1." The claim conversion ratio is not a guaranteed market price or redemption value.
"10% system income means guaranteed yield." Revenue distributions depend on protocol income, distribution conditions, staking state, and market exposure.
"TCY recovery and exploit recovery are the same thing." The THORFi unwind and the May 2026 GG20/TSS exploit conciliation are different events with different liabilities, decisions, and evidence trails.
"ADR-028 means every loss was restored." The accepted ADR defines a one-time accounting and loss-allocation migration; its own waterfall includes Saver and treasury impacts, so acceptance is not universal made-whole proof.
Non-Claims
This page does not prove:
- Current TCY claiming, staking, unstaking, trading, or distribution availability.
- Current Savers or Lending product availability.
- Full debt recovery, par redemption, or that any claimant has been made whole.
- Current solvency, safety, restart, or exploit recovery completion.
- TCY price, yield, suitability, or investment value.
- That a third-party interface is safe or using current claim logic.
Use this article as a dated map. Use live diagnostics, official interfaces, and address-specific THORNode evidence before making present-tense claims.
